What to Expect at Your San Jose In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session
A Relaxed Experience
Lifestyle newborn sessions are all about capturing genuine moments in a comfortable setting. Plan for up to two hours of shooting time, which gives us ample opportunity to catch your baby both sleeping and awake, creating a diverse gallery of beautiful memories! (This also gives your new baby time for feeding, diaper changes, etc.)
Scouting for the Best Light
When I arrive, I’ll ask for a quick tour of your home. We’ll look for the best spots to shoot—typically the master bedroom, nursery (if you have one, no worries if you don't), and the living room. In San Jose, many homes have lovely natural light, and we really only need one great window to create stunning images.
No Need to Stress About Cleaning!
Forget the idea of a spotless house! I always say that parents are doing enough just by caring for their newborn. If you want to tidy up a bit, consider clearing bedside tables and closing closet doors. If time doesn’t allow, no worries—I’m happy to help rearrange anything needed for our photos. We’ll create beautiful images that reflect the true essence of your family, while having the illusion of a spotless house!
Cozy Family Moments
We’ll often start the session in the master bedroom, where we can capture those cozy family moments on the bed. A light-colored or neutral bedspread works best for a soft, serene backdrop. If your comforter is busy, consider using a solid blanket to keep things clean and simple. Bedspreads with a single color (such as blue, red, etc) can also make for nice backgrounds.
Outfits and Swaddles
If you want your baby to wear multiple outfits, have those easily accessible. I’ll bring freshly laundered, neutral-colored swaddles that look great on camera if you would like to use them, but feel free to have your favorites ready to use too!
Your Baby is Perfect
Your little one is perfect just as they are! I have no expectations—whether they’re alert, asleep, or a mix of both, we’ll capture it all. Feeding your baby shortly before I arrive can help us get some great shots. I suggest dressing them in a simple, neutral onesie—no graphics or bright colors—which will make for adorable shots.
Comfort for Mom and Dad
For you as parents, opt for comfortable, neutral clothing. This is a thrilling yet exhausting time, and I want you to enjoy the experience. Just be yourselves, and I’ll capture the magic of this fleeting moment in your lives!
Sibling Involvement
If you have older siblings, I’ll capture those interactions early on, as their attention can wane quickly. Prepare them by saying a friend is coming to take some fun family photos! Consider having Dad keep them entertained and maybe promise a treat afterward—ice cream or a fun snack works wonders to keep their spirits high.
Your Ideas Matter!
Throughout the shoot, I’ll offer posing suggestions, but I’m also eager to hear your ideas if there are any particular shots you really want. If you have any special items, like a family heirloom or a knitted blanket from Grandma, just let me know, and we can incorporate those into the session.
Relax and Enjoy
The most important thing? Relax and be yourselves! We’re here to have fun, make memories, and capture those beautiful moments that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
I'm looking forward to creating stunning memories with you and your family right here in San Jose!
