BAY AREA NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER
RELAXED NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY FOR FAMILIES ACROSS THE PENINSULA
Your Newborn Photography Questions Answered
Not sure what to expect from an at-home newborn session? You’re not alone. Here are a few of the most common questions I get from Bay Area parents—along with thoughtful, experience-based answers to help you feel confident...
When’s the best time to book a newborn photography session?
The beauty of lifestyle newborn photography is that there’s no rush. Most families book their session to occur when baby is between 2 and 8 weeks old, but there’s flexibility. I often find 3 to 6 weeks to be a perfect window: babies are still tiny, but parents usually feel more settled and less exhausted. And if your baby is a bit older? That’s no problem. Older babies bring beautiful expressions and sweet, connected moments.
What time of day works best?
I typically schedule sessions in the mid-morning, when the light indoors is soft and flattering. Every home is different—whether you’re in a sunlit Palo Alto house or a modern Mountain View townhome, we’ll choose a time that suits you and your space.
What should we wear for the photos?
Keep it simple and comfortable. For your baby, a snug, neutral onesie photographs beautifully. Have a couple of soft swaddles ready — or you can use a few from my collection that photograph well. For parents and siblings, neutral tones like ivory, beige, soft gray, and dusty pastels tend to work well in natural light. Choose pieces that feel like you — this session is about comfort and connection with your new baby.
Do we need to clean up the house?
No cleaning needed! I’ve photographed beautiful newborn sessions in homes all over the Peninsula—from cozy apartments in Mountain View to elegant homes in Los Altos. I typically work in just a few areas (like the bedroom or nursery), and I can help move or tidy things as needed. The focus is on your family — not your floors. And if there's dirty dishes in the sink? Don't worry - I don't judge and probably won't even notice.
Is my home good enough for photos?
Yes. 100 times yes. All I need is one good window with natural light. Whether you live in a minimalist Mountain View condo or a single family home in Los Altos Hills, we’ll create meaningful images in your space—exactly as it is. If you have multiple good windows, we can use more than one room.
Can we include siblings or family portraits?
Absolutely. These sessions are about connection, not just posed baby portraits. We’ll capture a mix of baby-only images, sibling snuggles, and full family moments — you'll get a full gallery of images to treasure forever.
Does my baby need to be asleep?
Nope! Lifestyle newborn sessions are baby-led. If your little one is wide-eyed, sleeping, or needs a feed or diaper change in the middle, that’s all part of it. We’ll follow their rhythm and capture whatever unfolds. The most meaningful images usually come from unplanned, quiet moments. Typically we'll get images both of baby sleeping and awake, which makes for great memories and photographs.
